It’s been a bit quiet here of late, but it’s worth announcing that – at yesterday’s Cabinet Meeting – Essex County Council has set a provisional budget increase for 2026-27 of just 3.95% – including the Governments 2% Adult Social Care precept.
The 2026/27 budget, focusing on protecting essential services, supporting the most vulnerable, and investing in the county’s future, all while keeping council tax as low as possible.
Key highlights:
• Over £2 billion planned investment across essential services
• £82 million additional funding for priority areas shaped by feedback from 1,300+ residents
• Roads and pavements, support for vulnerable people, better infrastructure and good jobs identified as top priorities
• A proposed 3.95% council tax increase, well below the 4.99% maximum allowed (1.95% general increase and 2% Adult Social Care precept)
• For a Band D property, this equals £1.20 per week (£62.37 per year)
